From My Easel
There are times when a painting becomes more than the objects sitting in front of me.
For In Your Presence, I arranged three old glass vessels together, placing a delicate stem of golden wattle in the centre. I loved the contrast of that cheerful, fuzzy yellow against the cooler blues, and the challenge of capturing light as it travelled through the different colours and thicknesses of the glass.
The three vessels also began to hold a deeper meaning for me. They became a quiet representation of the Trinity and the painting evolved into a reflection on what it means simply to be in God's presence.
There is no grand gesture here. Just three vessels, a small branch gathered from nature and beautiful light falling across them. Perhaps that simplicity is what I love most. It reminds me that stillness doesn't have to be empty; sometimes it is where we become most aware of what has been there all along.
In Your Presence is my invitation to pause for a moment, become still and notice the beauty—and the presence—that can so easily be missed in the busyness of everyday life.
About This Composition
In Your Presence features a delicate branch of Australian wattle arranged amongst three vintage glass bottles. Golden blossoms contrast against cool blue and amber glass, while soft natural light reveals the transparency, reflections and subtle imperfections of each vessel. This contemporary Australian still life is a study of light and glass, with an underlying reflection on stillness, presence and the wonder.
