Visit My Studio During Margaret River Open Studios 2026

One of my favourite events of the year is almost here, and I'd love to welcome you to my painting space during Margaret River Open Studios 2026.

As a Margaret River Region artist based just outside Dunsborough, Open Studios is a wonderful opportunity to invite visitors into the place where every painting begins. It's a chance to slow down, wander through a working artist's studio, and experience original artwork in the space where it was created.

Whether you're an avid art collector, looking for a meaningful gift, or planning a weekend exploring the many talented artists across the region, I hope you'll add my studio to your itinerary.

Discover New Original Oil Paintings

This year's exhibition features a collection of brand-new original oil paintings inspired by the quiet beauty of everyday life and the landscapes of the South West.

For the first time, I'll be unveiling a new still life series featuring berries and aged metal vessels. These paintings explore the rich textures of weathered metals alongside the softness and colour of seasonal berries, celebrating the beauty found in simple, familiar objects. Light, atmosphere, and timeless compositions remain at the heart of every piece.

Alongside these works is a new collection of small landscape studies inspired by local walking trails, secluded beaches, and peaceful places throughout the Margaret River Region, particularly of those close to home that I walk with family and friends, or on my own for quiet contemplation. These smaller paintings capture fleeting moments of light and are perfect for collectors wanting to bring a little piece of the South West into their home. I look forward to seeing if you can recognise them!

You'll also find a selection of larger landscape and still life paintings, all painted in oils using my signature tonal impressionist style.

Introducing My Earthy Life Ceramics

Visitors will also be able to browse my growing My Earthy Life collection.

Inspired by nature and everyday rituals, this handcrafted ceramic range has been designed to bring beauty into daily living. From thoughtfully crafted homewares to small gift ideas, each piece reflects the same appreciation for natural textures, simplicity, and connection that inspires my paintings.

Seeing the paintings and ceramics together creates a beautiful experience, where fine art and functional pieces complement one another.

Experience a Working Artist's Studio

One of the things visitors often tell me they enjoy most is seeing the studio itself.

During Margaret River Open Studios, you'll have the opportunity to see where I paint, view works in progress, learn about my painting process, and hear the stories behind each collection. There is something special about seeing the brushstrokes, textures, and subtle layers of an original oil painting in person that simply can't be captured on a screen.

Questions are always welcome, and I love sharing the inspiration behind my work, whether it's a favourite local beach walk, a treasured vintage vessel, or the changing light across our beautiful South West landscape.

Planning Your Visit

Stephanie Stokes Pottery where I paint and create my ceramics is located near Dunsborough in the beautiful Margaret River Region, making it an easy addition to your Open Studios journey. Surrounded by peaceful countryside, it's the perfect place to slow down, enjoy original Australian art, and experience the creative process firsthand.

If you're looking for things to do in the Margaret River Region this September, I encourage you to spend a day exploring the incredible artists opening their studios throughout the region. Every studio offers something unique, and I'd be honoured if mine was one of your stops.

I look forward to welcoming familiar faces, meeting new visitors, and sharing everything I've been creating over the past year.

See you at the studio!

Introducing My Earthy Life

There has been a quiet shift happening in my work.

For many years, I’ve been drawn to painting the everyday… light on glass, familiar objects, the stillness found in simple arrangements. It has always been about noticing. About slowing down enough to see what is already there and taking a mental break from the demands of life, to settle and concentrate on what is in front of me and appreciate its form. To listen and have quiet moments just me and the scene.

Over time, that way of seeing has gently extended beyond the canvas.

I began to notice the objects I was living with. The bottles in the kitchen, the pieces in the bathroom, the small, functional things that are used every day but rarely considered. I found myself wanting them to feel the same as the subjects I paint -calm, cohesive, and quietly beautiful. I wanted my guests to have that extra special aesthetic to make them smile.

At the same time, there was a growing awareness of how much in our homes is temporary. Disposable. Easily replaced.

This collection has come from a desire to shift that, in small and meaningful ways.

To create pieces that are made to last.

To choose materials that feel grounded and real.

To bring a sense of intention to everyday rituals.

My Earthy Life is a collection of handcrafted ceramic pieces for the body, home and garden — from bottle tags to small objects for growing and tending.

They are simple by design.

Made to sit gently within a space, rather than stand apart from it.

More than anything, they are an extension of the same practice that began in painting; noticing, simplifying, and finding beauty in what is already part of daily life.

This is just the beginning.

Postbox Painting of the Week

Every Friday evening at 7pm WST I release a miniature original painting. My Postbox Paintings are my way of giving those who love my work the chance to secure something beautiful that is affordable and versatile - they stand on a shelf or come with multiple ways of hanging on that little wall space that every person has (including an option for not making a hole in your wall).

If you’re on Instagram, that is where they are released first, with the chance to secure it, simply by being first to comment sold. If you would like a sneak peak just before the release so you are ready, just join my emailing list of those chomping at the bit for a preview!

Meet this week’s Post Box Painting.

There’s something special about small things. A single shell found on the beach. The delicate curl of a leaf. The contrast of shadows cast in a moment drenched in sunlight. A Postbox Painting is a tiny moment captured in oils, waiting to find a home.

A Walk to the Dunes, 20 x 20cm, oil on birch

Designed by Heidi, Postbox Paintings can stand stably on a shelf, counter or desk or can be hung with the specially designed hole in the back, or with 3M strips (all mounting options included)

Beautifully wrapped, its the perfect gift to get yourself or someone special.
💌 Free shipping included!

To claim this piece, be the first to comment “SOLD” when it drops on Instagram: @heidi_emma_fine_art at 7pm

Signing off for 2024 and Merry Christmas!

How has 2024 been for you, dear follower?

2024 has been a big year for me - moving into our new home after 7 moves in 2 years, planning and producing for my largest and most successful exhibition of my art career and the creation of some of my most favourite artworks yet. I've planted over 400 native plants on our block to revegetate it and hope in time to yield some beautiful foliage and blooms for future still life work. I continue to paint from our kitchen table, and most recently have taken over a corner of our future theatre room, whilst my studio houses a couple during the rental crisis down here.

I've also been a busy beaver setting up our lovely new short stay accommodation on our property Wild Spring, called "The Honey Pot Suite". It was a great new avenue to exercise my creativity and love for interior decorating and I'm so proud to welcome guests in 2025. There is also plans for The Creatives Studio in 2026, where fellow artists or writers can escape to my actual studio space and enjoy a stay, create and even have private tuition with me. You can stay in the loop by following Wild Spring (instagram.com/wildspring_studios).

There’s been some amazing arty highlights:

-  my most successful exhibition  in Fremantle, 'Perfectly Still',
- being selected to exhibit at Fine Art at Hale in 2025,
- having my work showcased at Rivendell Winery in Yallingup,
- donating my largest landscape painting of Smiths Beach to raise $5000 for the Yallingup Bolunteer Firefighters
- delivering painting workshops to private bookings,
- launching my best print release yet (still available on my website).

In there somewhere, I've managed to educate precious 5 year old humans 2 days a week and have kept my family alive for another year. Winning!

I am incredibly grateful for your support  - reading my infrequent newsletters, your encouraging words via email, on Insta, and Facebook, and talking to you in person.
I create because I feel called to, and it is the icing on the cake when my work resonates with you and in turn graces your walls.

What does 2025 hold for me?

We never know what the future holds but I have a few exciting intentions!

One of which is a series of small, affordable paintings released one per week on Sunday afternoons during Autumn. These precious pieces will be released on instagram and available first to those who comment. Keep an eye out!

I am considering participating in the Margaret River Open Studios again in September after a few years break. What do you think? 😉

I can’t wait to capture more of the South West's beautiful landscapes, with a particular focus on small vistas local to my home that you might recognise.

I will continue to take private bookings of groups for workshops, either in the South West or in Perth. To inquire or book, just hit reply and I can fill you in. In short, if you gather 4 or more people, I can come to you or set up at a lovely venue and teach you my technique.

I’d better get back to the Christmas festivities!

Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas and a peaceful start to 2025.

Take care and chat soon,

Heidi Emma

Exciting news is, that I will soon be releasing a limited amount of prints of some of my exhibition pieces. If you wish to be notified so that you can be first in as it will be strictly limited, please send me a message to join the wait list.

Thank you to friends, family, collectors and supporters who all popped in across the exhibition week to say hello and appreciate the work. You can see all the happy snaps on my Instagram feed and highlights.

To The Rescue - 100% profits to Yallingup Fire Brigade

I am delighted to donate this beautiful piece to an epic fundraiser happening this Saturday!

This piece is a response to an exquisite moment at Smith’s Beach, captured by talented Southwest photographer, Phil Hollett. I used handmade oils for this piece, and a lot of it! Superior in their quality with vivid pigments and no artificial binders or fillers, they are only the best for the best subjects. Applied with brush, fingers and palette knife I paint in a lively fashion, stepping back and working from a distance to kept it painterly and expressive.

Raw and beautiful, Smiths Beach is fiercely protected by those who value its vista as well as the ecosystems that are under threat by develop proposals. Whether you surf its waves, hike its paths, sit on its sand or walk its shore, it is a beloved spot deserving of respect. I hoped to capture the moment of time; of movement, of the majesty of the created, going about its daily rhythms undeterred by the plans of man. May it forever be respected.

The online Auction is live as of tonight and continues on the night. You can find more details here:

Heidi Emma - "Autumn Skies at Smiths" | Free Online Silent Auction Fundraisers | 32auctions

If you would like details of how you can support this fabulous event by coming along and enjoying being wined and dined by Southwest chefs please see ticket information here, and maybe I will see you there!
