From My Easel
Yallingup Lagoon is one of those places that seems to invite you to slow down.
Protected by the reef beyond, its shallow waters shift through beautiful blues and turquoise, meeting stretches of pale sand and the darker, rugged vegetation of the coastline. At low tide there is even more to explore, with patches of sand and reef revealed beneath the water.
I was drawn to the sense of space in this view - the long sweep of shoreline, tiny figures in the distance and that wonderful contrast between the sunlit sand and deep shadows cast by the coastal vegetation.
Beautiful light has a way of making familiar places feel new again, and Yallingup is somewhere I could return to and paint over and over. The colours change with the tide, weather and time of day, yet there is a peacefulness about the lagoon that remains.
Yallingup Lagoon is my little celebration of that feeling: warm sand underfoot, clear water stretching ahead and nowhere you particularly need to be.
About This Place
Yallingup Lagoon sits along the coastline of Yallingup in Western Australia’s Margaret River Region. Sheltered by the reef beyond, the lagoon is loved for its clear, shallow water and beautiful stretch of sand, making it a favourite place for swimming, exploring and simply spending time by the sea.
This painting captures the lagoon at a quieter moment, looking along the shoreline towards the surrounding coastal landscape.
