From My Easel
It isn't always the grand view that makes me want to paint. Sometimes it's simply the way the light falls across a familiar paddock.
Do Ewe Feel It Too? was inspired by pastureland just outside Dunsborough, where grazing sheep, native trees and changing light are all part of the landscape I know so well.
What caught my attention here was the light. It moved across the grass in bands of brilliant yellow-green and deep shadow, while the trees beyond seemed to hold every shade of olive, gold, rust and earthy red. The little white sheep scattered throughout gave me those lovely points of contrast and, admittedly, the opportunity for a title I couldn't resist.
I love that our landscape can be both spectacular and wonderfully ordinary. You don't necessarily have to travel to a dramatic coastline to find something beautiful; sometimes it's waiting beside the road on the way home.
Do Ewe Feel It Too? is about noticing those moments when beautiful light transforms a familiar place and makes you look again.
About This Place
Beyond the beaches of Dunsborough and Geographe Bay, the landscape quickly gives way to rolling pasture, native bushland and farmland characteristic of Western Australia's Margaret River Region.
Do Ewe Feel It Too? captures one of these rural scenes just outside Dunsborough, where sheep graze beneath established trees and shifting sunlight creates beautiful patterns across the paddocks; a quieter side of the region that is every bit as much a part of its character and where I call home.
