That Vase
That Vase
That Vase celebrates the beauty of colour, light and perspective. Featuring vibrant blooms arranged in a striking turquoise vase, this archival fine art print captures the joy of noticing those special objects that instantly catch the eye and become the inspiration for a painting.
From My Easel
Every now and then, an object simply refuses to be ignored.
For me, it was this turquoise vase at an unusual angle. Its rich colour immediately drew my attention, and I knew I wanted to build a painting around it. Painting the subject from above, allowing the flowers, vessel and dramatic shadows to create a completely different composition became a favourite composition and led to a few other pieces like this one.
I've always been fascinated by the way beautiful light transforms both ordinary and extraordinary subjects. As the light moved across the vase, it deepened the turquoise, softened the petals and created beautiful contrasts that couldn't be achieved through colour alone.
Sometimes a painting begins with an idea. Sometimes it begins with a feeling. This one simply began with a vase that made me stop and look a little longer. It became a reminder that inspiration often comes from paying attention to the small things that quietly spark our curiosity.
About This Composition
That Vase features vibrant garden blooms arranged in a distinctive turquoise ceramic vessel, painted from an elevated perspective in Heidi Emma's signature tonal impressionist style. Beautiful natural light, expressive brushwork and dramatic shadows create a contemporary still life that celebrates colour, composition and the beauty of seeing familiar objects from a fresh point of view.
